One way to get exercise, have fun and stay cool is to ride your bike. Whether it’s a road bike, mountain bike, fixed-gear bike, BMX bike or a Balance bike, Austin has a place for you to ride.
Located on 9th Street (between Lamar and Henderson Streets and across from Duncan Park) is a BMX park that has been around for 20 years. Local BMX riders have kept up the park with all volunteer work. There is plenty of shade, it’s free and it’s open to riders of all levels. Even little kids on balance bikes can get over the bumps.
Just a few blocks North of Duncan Park, you can ride at the new City of Austin’s BMX Bike and Skate Park (1213 Shoal Creek). It’s a 30,000-square-foot park designed for all skill levels.
To stay cool on your bike, freeze your water bottle over night. During your ride, squirt water through the vents in your helmet and cool off your head.
