Team 1379 showed out in force at the Manzano Mile last Saturday. We had over 100 kids run in the Future Milers of America Race. Luckily for these youngsters, they only had to run one lap around the track. But it was a quick lap for most….except our little one who happily jogged her slowest all the way around!!!

We had the normal kid pit out there with kids playing non-stop for 4 hours. Amongst the kid distractions were some pretty impressive mile times. One racer even finished in 4:09!! That was fun to watch!

Some of our retail partners put in some great performances. Jamie Cleveland, owner of Hill Country Running, pulled in a 4:45! Not bad for an old man. Angie Ballantine, the real boss behind the scenes at Jack and Adam’s, came in at 5:58. For a mom, that’s not bad!!

The highlight of the day was definitely the kid 400m. The kids were so fast and so cute!! But then it hit the fan. The Fit Industry Relay got on the track. Now consider all of the fit industries in Austin. And then think of me and Mike. Hmm. I know what I am and an elite runner is not it. So we pulled in Sarah Mark who works part-time down south and one of Mike’s high school buddies who is just an ex-football player (so I thought). Sarah runs like a bat out of hell for the first quarter, Scott comes around the final turn of the second lap in — OH MY GOSH — second place. Then….well….Lindsay and Mike ran….I mean, tried to run…..and we did….well. More than that, unlike some of those poser fit industry people who stacked one team full of ringers, we had two teams made of all people affiliated with our store. Our other team even had a 1379 kid on it (I don’t like saying kids’ names online so “J” you did an awesome job!!).

I kept telling people all day that our teams won because I honestly don’t even know who won. We had so much fun that to us it didn’t matter.

I think the best part, knowing our store, is that our youngest was acting up and wanted to be with us so between laps 3 and 4 we not only handed off the baton but we also handed off the baby. More than fitting I thought.

Thanks to Texas School for the Deaf for hosting. Also, check out Leo Manzano’s bio if you get a chance. He’s pretty impressive.

Go team!
