More than 80 runners kicked off the Austin running season at the 1st annual 1379 kids Relays this past Friday. With a food spread from Taco Deli and live music from rock band Vallejo waiting for them at the finish, runners of all ages grouped in teams of four, each ran a leg of the out and back route through Zilker Park. Anxious kids had no sooner lined up than they were off sprinting around the course. With lots of cheering, waving, and smiling, finishers handed off their Batons -wristbands- to their team mates.

A unique event -as there is none quite like it in town-, the Zilker Relays gave participants the opportunity to run with their friends for an experience they will not soon forget.

After the race 1379 Sports gave out kids socks, and each participant had the chance to tie dye their own 1379 t-shirt -with some pretty cool and surprising results-. The festivities continued well into the evening at the impromptu 1379 mound-of-dirt-underneath-MoPac Kid Zone, proving that running, tie dye, dirt, mud, water, food and and music is pretty much all a kid could wish for.
