Feeling a little restless here in Austin? Wondering where exactly all your vacation days went? Why not take a day trip or the weekend to rejuvenate and keep active of course. There are many places to choose from for a day or two of fun and excitement. Think about spending the weekend in nearby Fredericksburg, TX. A great idea for young families is to go peach picking at one of the many orchards in the area, visit the Pioneer Museum or meet the alpacas of Wildflower Ridge Alpacas.

If you can only spare the day, look into visiting Hamilton Pool Preserve or Blue Hole. With picnicking, swimming and a hike and bike trail waiting for you, Blue Hole (in Georgetown, TX) is a great place for active families. Begin your day with biking or a hike on the three mile trail starting at the south end of the swimming hole. It’s also a great opportunity to make and bring your own trail mix to munch on along the way! Then cool yourselves off in the San Gabriel River waters. Think about packing a picnic lunch to fuel all the fun you’ll be having or walk the mere five blocks to the square to grab some grub.

Whatever you decide on be sure that if you will be in the sun for an extended amount of time wear clothing with a UPF rating, a hat and some sunscreen. Stop by the store and check out the fun colored face sunscreen for the kids and pick up all your last minute swimming needs for your next “staycation”!
