For most of us, school is out and the excitement of summer is here and then we have that “oh no!” moment of what to do now. Instead of letting our kids drive us crazy, we have to remember that these times are fun, despite how much yelling we have to do.

An easy way to have Friday Family Fun is to meet at a city pool after work or in the early evening to avoid the hot, hot sun and direct sun rays on your kids. But of course if you go during the day, pick up a suit, goggles, rash guard, or sunscreen at 1379 first! (shameless plug, sorry!).

Deep Eddy, Northwest, Stacy, and Barton Springs are just a few that are already open with the rest of the neighborhood pools apparently open this weekend (but check the schedule because some are unclear).

Oh, and watch your kids. No offense Austin Parks and Rec but I think most of the high schoolers who life guard are more interested in their tans than being attentive. Now that you have all your warnings, go cool off. Your kids will love it if you get in too, even if you’re sporting the three-kids-and-no-time-to-exercise body. We earned that body so there’s no reason to hide it. Play games like craziest jump off the side. Our ongoing winner is Popeye because they eat the spinach and then all their muscles pop out until they can’t stand on the side anymore. See how many times your kids can bob in the shallow end. It doesn’t really matter but it keeps them busy for a while…and reminds them how to count now that they’re out of school. And the handstand contest. This is for you dads. Get out there and show off your ugly feet.

Have fun this summer!
