Here are a few suggestions to help you enjoy your time with Dad this weekend.
Bike Ride
Take the family for a bike ride around the neighborhood or load up the bikes and try the Veloway.
If your Dad likes to do a serious ride on the weekends, meet him at the door with post exercise breakfast. He’d also love it if the kids used some wet rags to clean his bike frame. Maybe all the bikes could use a wash?
Baseball
Take Dad to see the Express play on Sunday night at 7:05. A cute gift would be an autographed baseball by his own kids/grandkids!
Picnic
Free concert at the Zilker Hillside Theatre on Sunday from 7:30-9:30. Bring a blanket and your cooler. Enjoy a picnic in the grass as you listen to the music of the Austin Symphony Orchestra. Fun for all ages.
Community Service
The Lady Bird Lake Clean up is still in need of volunteers from 9-11 on Sunday. Some kayaks are still available!
Daytrip
The Luling Watermelon Thump is all day Saturday. Music and Watermelon seed spitting contests.
Rest
Lots of Dads are too busy this time of year. Maybe the best way to celebrate is by staying home! Let Dad take a nap or watch sports on T.V. The kids can go swim at a local pool or play in one of the great Austin Parks. Most Dads secretly dream of taking a nap!
Gifts
If you want to give a gift, make it meaningful. Let the kids make a videotape of all the things they love to do with Dad. Buy some new gadgets for the grill and have the kids go to the grocery store (while Dad naps) and load up the groceries. If Dad likes to spend time on the hike and bike trail, visit The Trail Foundation website and buy Dad his own brick to be installed at Lou Neff point.
P.S. – Who taught you how to fish? Remember your own dad this weekend.
