1. Drink and Drive.
  2. Operate a personal watercraft on the lakes.
  3. Fish from a bridge which crosses the Colorado River within the city limits.
  4. Propel or launch fluid filled balloons from your watercraft.
  5. Swim or float more than 50 feet from the shore of Lake Austin.

(The first five are real laws that the Westlake Picayune printed in the May 27, 2010 paper. The next five I figured out myself.)

  1. Expect to get a parking space near Barton Springs or the Zilker Park playscape.
  2. Go for a fun family bike ride around Lady Bird Lake at 10:30 a.m.
  3. Try to eat snacks down by the pool at Deep Eddy.
  4. Visit a campground by the lake without a reservation.
  5. Sleep-in.

If you don’t already have plans for this weekend, get the family up early and go the park, ride your bikes, or get in an early swim. Pack some juice and breakfast tacos and eat outside. Later in the day you can enjoy being home. Nothing says Memorial Day like grilling at home with your family, friends and neighbors. (And plan extra time if you shop Central Market on a Holiday Weekend for your groceries…)
