Spring is around the corner – and so are spring and summer sports leagues. As you and your family head to the court or sports field, make sure that you are all well hydrated as the weather heats up.

Our bodies need water to function properly. If we are active, we want are bodies to function well – not just properly, so good hydration is key. Try to encourage your kids to drink through out the day, rather than wait until she/he is thirsty. Once you are thirsty, you are already low on water.

Also, think about what your child is drinking. Is it really necessary to have full strength sports drinks with high levels of sugar and food coloring? It may be good to have one of these during or after a rigorous workout or game. Otherwise, try to stick to plain old water. It is relatively free and it is really what your child’s body needs.
