I have to give credit to my kids because we went to the San Antonio Zoo yesterday and the walk to the entrance was about a mile (really), the park was PACKED, the animals all looked sad and were sleeping or pacing in circles, and I kept feeding them healthy cardboard snacks because San Antonio is the third fattest city in the country. Fortunately, they didn’t notice and despite a little whining on the long walk back to the car they seem to have had a great time. In the end, it was painful enough for Mike and me that I would not recommend going, unless it’s on a weekday during school. Wednesday of Spring Break was a little much. Shocking, I know. :)

That’s why I’m going to tell you about another place. One of customers just sent me an email about a great place to go near us. In retrospect, this sounds a lot better. I wish we had gone here! Here’s her note:

We had a really amazing experience yesterday I’d like to share with you. We took the girls to Morgan’s Wonderland in San Antonio. It’s a theme park built with special needs kiddos and/or kiddos with disabilities in mind. It just opened a couple of weeks ago (grand opening isn’t until April 10th) and so everything is new, clean, and they have capped the capacity so there is relatively no wait for anything. It’s a 25 acre theme park with a carousel, train that takes you around the perimeter, cars to drive, a pier to shoot water cannons off and drive remote controlled boats, a sensory village with very innovative technology, a gymnasium, a string of water tables, and multiple playscape areas for all ages. In my opinion it’s the perfect balance between not being a Sea World overwhelming size, but also offering enough activity to keep the day full and fun.

Beyond the fun for the girls, the highlight for me was the opportunity to expose the girls to people with special needs with whom we don’t interact on a regular basis. It opened up an important dialogue for us and served as an educational opportunity I didn’t expect.

In case you are interested in giving it a try or passing it along to someone who might be interested, here is the website: www.morganswonderland.com. You do need to make a reservation online in order to be admitted.

Next time, we’re going there!
