Have you ever noticed in a day how many times your kids touch you. Isn’t it annoying! I mean, adorable. Every time my kids sit on my lap, put their heads on my shoulder, or lay on my legs when I’m sitting with them crossed I think all in one split second, “I love my kids; they are so cute,” “I love how they get comfort from my touch,” “How many freakin’ kids do I have touching me right now?” “How many freakin’ kids do I have?” “Ahhh, that hurts,” “My legs going numb,” “Get off of ME!!!”
This happens about five times every day. And every time it happens I think of this quote I once heard by Dorothy Canfield Fisher, which says, “A mother is not a person to lean on but to make leaning unnecessary.” Dad’s that goes for you too. My kids are still young but I hope that one day Mike and I can step back and say they no longer need us to lean against…and then we’ll probably long for it again.
Oh, and our kids look cool when they lean on us because they got their clothes and shoes at 1379.
