I have shopped at Zappos.com. I am not afraid to admit it. I also look for the best deal out there. Of course I love shopping in my own store but I also enjoy going in others and getting a change of scenery. I went on Zappos today to search for a product for a customer because it is something we carry but we did not have her size. I was shocked to see that a shoe we carry for $47 was for sale on Zappos for $63. But free shipping! I shouldn’t say I was shocked because this is the third time I have gone on Zappos.com to find shoes above the suggested retail price. What makes them think they can do this? As a consumer, I am offended they would try this and as a shop owner I am outraged that they get away with it.
So beware. If you find a shoe you like on Zappos or any other ecommerce site (including ours…even though it will be another week before we have shoes up), take a second to call us at 1379 or some of the other local retailers like Runtex, Whole Earth, Rogue, Bettysport, or Hill Country Running to see if any of us have it at the normal price. If we don’t then Google the style name and/or number. See if it pops up on another other site. If it does for cheaper, you know Zappos is wrong.
I really hope you don’t think I posted this to bash our competition. I just don’t think it’s fair to us as consumers for them to take advantage for no reason.
